A group of student unions have locked down more than 100 schools, mostly private enterprises, on Wednesday, stating that those schools were fleecing parents by charging exorbitant fees for the students.
Cadres of the Nepal Students Union, ANNFSU, ANNFSU-Revolutionary among others student unions reached schools as the Rato Bangla School, Gems School, Ullens School, Nightingale School in Lalitpur and Takshashila School, Dafodil School in Kathmandu and locked the doors of the account and administration rooms of those schools, according to ANNFSU’s Secretary-General Ain Mahar.
Mahar said that those schools were locked as they continued to charge exorbitantly as against the standard fee determined by the government and failing to pay back to parents for the higher price they paid as a fee.
Padlock was also put in the schools as VS Niketan, Occidental School and Little Angels School.
The padlocks were put in the schools so as to ensure that the teaching-learning activities would be conducted adversely affected, explained Mahar.
PABSON’s Secretary-General Rajendra Baniya shared that the student unions had put padlock in the schools complying with the standard fees.
According to him, they were trying to reach to a solution through talks but the cadres of the student unions came suddenly and put the padlocks abruptly.
