BEST TRICKS TO REVEAL AND FAKE FACEBOOK ACCOUNT

1. Why spot a fake Facebook account?

Having a fake account is no less than a criminal activity of being a con artist. You would not want such a person in your life and in your Facebook friend list.

Fake accounts can be harmless as a prank, but more seriously fake accounts might be created to destroy your reputation and putting you up for a mind game.

2. Precaution is better than cure, don’t talk to strangers

If someone, with absolutely no mutual friends and no mutual correspondence, asks to befriend you, it is a big red flag coming your way. Think twice about accepting friend requests.

Click the profile of the person to see if you have mutual friends or if you know that person from somewhere.
If not, ask a question to the person. What makes them want to be your friend? Who do you know as a mutual acquaintance? Why do they want to add you on Facebook?
If you don’t recognize the person, it surely is a big red flag.

3. Become a sleuth

Do some sleuthing before you accept the friend request of any person. This is another way to reveal a fake Facebook account. Also, sleuthing is fun.

4. Read the profile

See if all things add up.

Is there too much polishing going on? Does the embellishment seem more than usual to make then look good? Implausible statements should not be taken seriously. Trust your senses.
If there are some implausible things stated, then ask a question to the person about the matter, ask questions about their job and make sure that all information provided is legitimate.
5. Profile picture speaks volumes

If there is only one picture, it’s a big red flag.
If the picture is too polished or too good to be true, that too is a bad sign.
Have you seen the photo somewhere before? Another bad sign.
Click and drag the profile picture to your desktop.
Launch Google Chrome and navigate to Google images.
Drop the profile picture into the search field.
The google images will return a match and you can easily find out if the person is actually a real person or just someone who has downloaded a picture from Google for their use.

6. Search their name online

For a common name, this would not be a useful thing to do. However, an unusual name might have some interesting returns.

For a common name, add additional information like age, location, schooling and other information to get a perfect match.
A normal person is generally tagged in at least one picture or the other. If not, it is another red flag.
7. Check out their friend list

This s another perfect way to reveal a fake Facebook account. Check out their friends. If the friend list has more global people than local, the account is surely a fake one. If they have no local friends, it’s time to get suspicious.

No local friends almost immediately mean a fake account.
There are people trying to get in touch with attractive women.
If they send cheesy messages like “I looked at your picture and I liked you”, it’s probably time to say goodbye.
8. Block them or the friend request

After all your sleuthing, if you come to the conclusion that the person might actually not be a real one, it’s time to bid goodbye to them.

Turn down their friend request by ignoring.
People with fake accounts generally are very clingy. For this case, block them down completely.
Click on the Facebook account name and visit the Timeline. Under the cover photo, click on Message settings.
Now you can block them or report then to Facebook if you feel that they are doing some illegal activities.

9. Create a probationary period

If you are one of those people interested in making as many friends as possible, based on their tastes in cooking, music or profession, then you are an open book sure to be infected by a few fake accounts.

Try to have someone vouch for the person you add.
Be alert to signs of weird behavior and cheesy talk.
If a person scans your profile and bombards you with likes of pictures that you clicked a long time ago, you should be aware that your photos might be misused.
If you hardly know the person, do not reveal much to them.
If you are not comfortable with a new friend, simply unfriend them after a probationary period of about 2 weeks.

10. Interconnected fake accounts

These days, it is not good to trust anyone completely. If someone had a group of friends vouching for them does not mean the account is real for sure.

There are instances where one person has created many Facebook accounts, pretending to be an array of people.
The perfect example is of Natalia Burgess, who felt that she was inadequately loved and went on to create a huge array of Facebook accounts, deceiving young men to fall for her aliases.

11. Look out for inconsistencies

If you are being targeted, you will certainly be exposed to a huge number of lies. Any person who is creating and running several Facebook accounts at once is surely set to jumble up and create inconsistent patterns for you to judge.

Ask questions and remain alerted to spot inconsistencies.
12. Look out for weird behavior

If a grown up person is pretending to be a teen, they might mix up their whole persona by saying something that teens would not know.

Take a note of what someone says.
Weird behavior and asking weird questions is a big sign that you are being fooled.
Don’t answer personal questions to people you hardly know.
13. Undying declarations of affection, love, and romance should make you wary

Someone you never met and someone who lived a thousand miles away from you will not fall in love with you in the first few days of talk. If such a person gets too amorous with you, be wary of them. A fake person who loves getting the hang out of destroying the feelings of others will dot his. They might be after money, sex or drugs.

Question yourself if you feel that a person is declaring unnecessary and cheesy love to you. If you think it’s too weird and too sudden, just block them.
If they ask sexy pictures from you, be suspicious and don’t fall into the trap. The free pornographic material will be distributed around by them and they will obtain money this way.

14. Unfriend them

This is the last step is revealing a fake Facebook account, if you are absolutely sure that the account is a fake one, then unfriend them by all means. They are not your real friends or family and pulling the plug out of them might certainly save you from future problems.

Warn your friends about the fake account so that they stay away from the person. Also, report the person to Facebook.
